Speaking Engagements

Steve Wampler is a testament to overcoming the incredible odds life can deliver! He has cerebral palsy, cannot walk…but in September of 2010 he paid a visit to the Yosemite Valley to challenge himself and inspire others. Yosemite is home to biggest sheer rock face in the world, El Capitan , a granite buttress that rises to 7,569 feet. El Capitan is not for the faint of heart, and is one of the most desired mountain climbing accomplishments in the world. Most experienced rock climbers’ battle shortness of breath, constant thirst, and little to no sleep while attempting to summit the sheer face…and that is without any disabilities!
Steve began his climb up El Capitan on September 12th, 2010. Without the use of his legs and limited use of one arm, he pulled himself up El Capitan four to six inches at a time, totaling 20,000 plus pull-ups. Lying in a reclined position, with his body supported by a customized hang gliding aluminum framed chair, he scaled one of the most famous and treacherous sheer faces in the world. On September 17th, six days later, he crested the top.
Steven’s inspiration came not only from his own disability with Cerebral Palsy, but from his passion in life to teach disabled children that anything is possible. Steve sponsors summer camps for disabled children, which is supported strictly by donations and free for the child. The camp’s focus on teaching kids exactly what Steve attempted and completed at El Capitan, to set goals and challenge yourself to accomplish them, no matter how big or small.
Everyone who meets Steven is instantly exposed to his vibrant personality, charisma, and love for everything around him. His passion and mission in life is not only inspirational, but gives us all a benchmark for not excepting failure and pushing forward when times are tough.
As a speaker Steven helps his audience to grasp the true meaning of heartfelt work, urging his audience to accept that there are always obstacles to face, while empowering listeners to understand what it really means to embrace their challenges. He knows in life there are always set-backs, but without these, success and accomplishments would not have the same meaning.
